Fantasy Football Player's Edge

September 30, 2008

Tuesday: (Recap)

Steelers 23/Ravens 20- Roethlisberger
(10) had a
modest performance. Holmes (12) scored while Ward
(5) had only 2 catches. Mendenhall (3) is out for the
season with a broken shoulder. McGahee (5) was carted
off the field with a chest injury opening a door for Le'Ron
McClain
(14) to claim the starting job over Ray Rice (0).
Mason
(13) caught 8 balls from Flacco (9). Heap (0) &
Heath Miller (0) were disappointments. The Steelers
(14) scored well while the Ravens (6) underperformed.

Notes from the Edge:

Derek Anderson
was a stalled 4th quarter drive from
being replaced by
Brady Quinn. It's essential that you
have a plan B ready to deal with Anderson's inevitable
demotion
. Grab Jason Campbell today.

Braylon Edwards will continue to struggle in Crennel's
conservative offense as the Browns are committed to a
run first offense to keep Anderson from imploding. Hold
on to the talented wideout as the promotion of Quinn
and the return of Donte Stallworth will benefit Edwards.
With that said, try to buy him low this week while he's
on a bye week.

Carson Palmer may return next week vs. the Cowboys.
Houshmanzadeh and Johnson's value are pegged to
Palmer.

Chris Perry's
stock is plummeting like the Dow and will
erode further once Kenny Watson returns.

David Garrard showed that he's playable if the matchup
is favorable. Unfortunately he faces the Steelers this
week.

Jerry Porter's debut for the Jaguars was uneventful.
He's a good receiver who seems to be chronically injured.
Stash him for a few weeks if you have roster room.

Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor are being slowed
by defensive schemes designed to force Garrard to throw.
Taylor had 10 carries with Jones-Drew/Garrard getting
only 7 apiece in a close game. They face the Steelers so
you can anticipate more of the same this week.

Matt Schaub seems to have righted the ship and should be
a solid bye week replacement through week 10.

It won't be this easy for Kevin Walter every week. The Jags
decided to take away Andre Johnson at all costs and Walter
made them pay. The Colts are likely to pay attention to him
this week.

Steve Slaton continues to exhibit Westbrook type skills and
could be a valuable spot play this week vs. the Colts for Lewis
and Steven Jackson owners.

Muhsin Muhammed established that he should be considered
as a #3 during bye weeks. He's likely to be inconsistent but has
a nice matchup vs. the Chiefs this week. D.J Hackett is not
fantasy relevant at this point.

Jonathan Stewart should start to see his workload increase at
the expense of D'Angelo Williams.

Jake Delhomme
has all of his weapons and could be a pleasant
surprise for bye week owners this week vs. Kansas City.

Michael Turner
will be marked until the Falcons adjust. The
Bucs
and the Panthers took him away with overloads and both
beat Atlanta easily. Roddy White and Matt Ryan are going to
have to keep defenses honest for Turner to succeed consistently.

Larry Johnson can still control a game and make big plays. It
seems that Herm Edwards has seen the light. Amen.

Damon Huard makes Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez
solid plays every week. Look for Croyle to reclaim the job in
week 7. Week 6 would be a good time to field offers for either.

Tony Scheffler has been non-existent in 3 of the 4 Broncos
games. With Marshall and Royal running free Jay Cutler is
taking the easy yards downfield. Sooner or later teams are going
to double the wideouts and big Tony will prosper. However he's
not likely to breakout this week vs. the Bucs athletic linebackers
and safeties.

Selvin Young is not getting enough touches to be effective. He
plays in a system that is currently geared to the pass.

Deuce McAllister had 21 touches and will be an integral part of
the high powered Saints offense. He's great add if still available.
He'll struggle this week vs. the Vikings but will be a great spot
play when the matchup is favorable. Reggie Bush owners need
to pay close attention as he had only 15 touches on Sunday. If
these splits continue it'll be time to offer Reggie for a #2 WR
before other owners catch on to what's happening.

Lance Moore's performance was predictable against the 49ers.
Brees found him early and often. He'll struggle when teams game
plan him. With that said, he's a better than average #3 this week
vs.the Vikings. Robert Meachem's speed will be utilized more
each week especially after Colston returns. He's a worth a flier if
you have roster space and patience.

J.T O'Sullivan is going to get better as the season progresses.
He's scoring double digits weekly even when he plays mediocre.
If he's a free agent grab him in case your #1 QB goes down.

Vernon Davis is clearly in the Nolan/Martz doghouse. He's
losing snaps to Delanie Walker. You might be wise to cut your
losses and grab a TE from free agency each week that has the
best matchup.

Arnaz Battle finally emerged this week and might ascend to a
spot play #3 status. Keep an eye on this receiver.

Laveranues Coles has developed rapport with Favre. He and
Cotchery are reminiscent of Driver/Jennings in the roles that
they play in Favre's progressions.

Thomas Jones is strictly a bye week replacement and only when
matchups are favorable.

Boldin owners should add Steve Breaston as insurance in the
likely event that Boldin is not ready to play this week.

Earnest Graham has benefited from long runs near the end of
the past 2 games. His numbers are skewed to the upside but he
has a terrific matchup this week vs. the Broncos.

Ryan Grant
has been the fantasy bust of the season thus far.
He faces a soft run defense in Atlanta and his QB has a sore
shoulder. It's now or never for Grant to step up.

Chris Johnson has established that he is a must play #2 RB
in week 7. He has the Ravens this week and a bye the next.

Bernard Berrian is a serviceable #3 especially this week vs.
the Saints. Pick him up on the cheap if possible.

Justin Fargas is expected to return this week which makes
the Raiders running back pool unplayable. McFadden will
eventually emerge as the #1 but is likely to share carries with
Fargas and lose goal line touches to Michael Bush, now.

Javon Walker, for the 2nd consecutive week, had a good 1st
drive only to disappear for the rest of the game. He has a good
risk/reward ratio if you have roster room.

Trent Edwards remains a solid bye week substitute. He has
a potential shootout this week in the desert vs. Arizona.

Marc Bulger
is likely to be reinstated as the Rams QB. Holt
should be the beneficiary.

Jason Campbell has moved briskly into the 2nd tier of NFL
QB's which has elevated Santana Moss to a must start every
week regardless of the opponent.

Miles Austin has scored in double digits over the last 2 games.
This is more likely an anomaly than a consistent reality.

Matt Forte continues to be the best rookie RB this season. He's
a safe start every week.

The Eagles are likely to have WR sets that includes Jackson,
Brown
and Curtis. This is good for McNabb supporters but
not so much for owners of this trio.

Ben Roethlisberger in not an automatic start every week,
however, he should fare well against Jacksonville this week.

Rashard Mendenhall is done for the season. If Parker can't
go Mewelde Moore will get the start vs. the Jaguars. Slaton
scored well against the Jags as a receiver out of the backfield,
a role that Moore would be able to replicate.

Derrick Mason seems to be Flacco's only target. Look for the
Titans to take away this option next week.

Todd Heap has been completely minimized in the Ravens game
plan. He's likely to get more looks this week but is still a tough
play vs. Tennessee.

Willis McGahee
looked terrible being carried off the field after
sustaining a chest injury. On appearances alone Le'Ron McClain
will get the start against Haynesworth and company this week.
Ray Rice has been a non-factor in the Ravens running game but
would spell McClain this week. He's not fantasy relevant.

Fantasy Football Player's Edge

September 29, 2008

Monday: (Recap)

Browns 20/Bengals 12- Crennel's
conservative
game plan resulted in modest scores for Anderson
(9)/Edwards (8) & Winslow (5). Lewis (13) was
able to find the end zone. Palmer was out nursing a
sore elbow leaving Ryan Fitzpatrick (9) to operate
the offense. Johnson (8) and Houshmanzadeh
(5) got what they could. Perry (1) was simply awful.
The Brown's (17) defense stepped up.

Jaguars 30/Texans (27)- Garrard (23) finally got
in gear with a passing and rushing TD. Jones-Drew (4)
and Fred Taylor (4) were neutralized. Matt Jones
(13) is getting more targets while Porter (0) played but
was invisible. Walter (19) came up big leaving only the
crumbs for Andre
Johnson (3). Schaub (26) played
extremely well. Slaton (17) was a great bye week play.
Owen Daniels (8) was solid. The Jaguars (0) defense
was a major disappointment.

Panthers 24/Falcons 9- Steve Smith (15) rewarded
his patient owners. Muhsin Muhammad (20) reprised,
at least for 1 game, his reputation as a quality receiver.
Delhomme (19)/Stewart (11) scored well while Hackett
(2)/D. Williams (5) belong on waivers. Roddy White (9)
continues to be a serviceable #2. Michael Turner (5) was
stonewalled. The Panthers (6) defense was pedestrian.

Chiefs 33/Broncos 19- Larry Johnson (29) was amazing.
Most pundits have suggested that Johnson's best days were
behind him. The Broncos (2) D would vehemently disagree.
Gonzalez
(10)/Bowe (8) benefited from Huard (10). Cutler
(16) and Marshall (10) scored acceptably with Royal (8) and
Stokely (8) having solid games as #3's. Selvin Young (4) and
Scheffler
(2) were dismal.

Saints 31/49ers 17- Deuce McAllister (14) had 21 touches.
Brees (25) had fantastic chemistry with Lance Moore (22).
Reggie Bush (3) and Patten (2) were lost while Meachem
(15)/Henderson (8) scored well. Pierre Thomas (0) was
the odd man out of the offense. O'Sullivan (12) owners were
expecting more. Gore (13) continues to display his stud status
while Vernon Davis (1) is non-existent in Martz's offense.
Battle (12)/Bruce (11) were solid but Bryant Johnson (0)
was not used even though he was active.

Jets 56/Cardinals 35- Farve (34) was ridiculously effective
tossing 6 touchdowns. Coles (28) and Cotchery (18) were the
primary beneficiaries. Thomas Jones (6) was not invited to
the party. Warner (17) had his usual high yardage/turnover
performance with Fitzgerald (12)/Boldin (15) scoring well.
James (19) had an odd game with only 29 yards rushing but
his owners will take it. Breaston (12) marched in the parade.
Hightower
(7) got into the act on a short score. The Jets (23)
defense cashed in on Warner's sloppy effort.

Buccaneers 30/Packers 21- Graham (17) had a nice game.
Dunn (8) was playable. Griese (6)/Bryant (3)/Hilliard (2)
were terrible. Ryan Grant (0) continues to struggle even after
proclaiming that he would be all out vs. the Bucs (18) defense
which scored nicely. Rodgers (11) had his first tough outing as
a starter but hooked up with Jennings (22) twice. Driver (0)
went missing. The Packers (12) defense scored well.

Titans 30/Vikings 17- Chris Johnson (19) was impressive
while White (7) vultured a goal line score. Gage (9)/Collins
(7) are in sync. Peterson (20) was fantastic. Berrian (7) was
useful as a #3 while Frerotte (7) is unplayable unless he has a
favorable matchup. The Titans (13) continue to be fantasy's
best outfit while the preseason favorite defense, Minnesota
(1) has been inconsistent.

Chargers 28/Raiders 18- Tomlinson (22) got going late
with Rivers (12), Gates (11), Jackson (5) and Chambers
(4) tagging along for the ride. Michael Bush (12) was good
while McFadden (3) struggled. Russell (12) connected with
Zach Miller (15) for a long score. Javon Walker (3) had his
points in the 1st quarter. The Chargers (11) were serviceable
for owners.

Bills 31/Rams 14- Trent Edwards (12) and Lee Evans (16)
made the most out of 2 receptions. Lynch (7) had his 1st subpar
game of the season as Fred Jackson (10) had the RB points.
Steven Jackson (24) broke out with Holt (6) only marginally
effective. Trent Green (8) fared no better than Bulger. The
Bills
(13) had a defensive score.

Redskins 26/Cowboys 24- Campbell (17), Portis (13) and
Santana Moss (14) are becoming fantasy's 3 amigos. Cooley (2)
was left at the altar. Romo (23), Witten (15) and Owens (14)
came through nicely. Barber (3) was thwarted all day and Miles
Austin
(10) had his 2nd straight double digit day while Crayton
(8) was also in play. Neither defense scored effectively.

Bears 24/Eagles 20- Orton (13) marred a good performance
with 4 turnovers. Forte (8) struggled but still put up respectable
numbers. Hester (9) maximized 4 touches. Olsen (9) had his 1st
solid game of the season. McNabb (13) missed Westbrook with
Buckhalter
(14) playing well in his stead. Jackson (14) had good
production as a #3. Brown (7) had 6 catches. The Eagles (12)
had another strong showing while the Bears (8) were a useful start.

Quick Picks: (free agents to acquire)
Jason Campbell
Deuce McAllister
Lance Moore
Kevin Walter
Matt Jones
Robert Meachem
Justin Gage
Matt Prater
Tampa Bay

Castaways:
(waiver candidates)
Chris Perry
D'Angelo Williams
D.J. Hackett
Selvin Young
David Patten

Hard Knocks: (injury notes)
A. Rodgers- shoulder
G. Frerotte- hand
A. Boldin- neck
D. Patten- groin
Brandon Lloyd- knee
R.McMichael- foot

Start/Sit: (Week 4)

1. QB's: Matchups

The Standard: 300 yards, 2 TD, 0 Int = 20 points

Favorable:

Trent Edwards-
faces the Rams who yield a league high
9.3 ypa. Edwards is averaging 7.8 ypa and has a 96.6 QB
rating on the season. Both of these metrics will rise after
Sunday's game. The Rams allow 18 points per game (ppg)
to QB's.

Carson Palmer- got back on track last week against a good
Giants defense and faces a Browns secondary this week
that allows 8.5 ypa. Palmer has a lifetime passer rating of
90.3 and 20 TD's vs. Cleveland. The Browns yield 20 ppg
to signal callers.

David Garrard- faces a Texans secondary that has allowed
7.1 ypa attempt even though they've played running offenses
in the Steelers and the Titans. Jerry Porter is due back this
week giving Garrard a much needed primary option. QB's
are averaging 18 ppg vs. the Texans.

Good Bet: Huard vs. Broncos, Schaub vs. Jaguars
Rodgers
vs. Bucs.

Unfavorable:

Ben Roethlisberger-
faces the stingiest pass defense in the
NFL in the Ravens who allow only 3.0 ypa. He'll be without
Willie Parker which will allow Baltimore to play the pass
even more aggressively. Throw in a bruised hand and you
have a formula for disaster.

Gus Frerotte- brings a questionable passing team in to face
a stout defensive team. The Titans yield 4.6 ypa and have
allowed only 1 TD pass so far this year.

Derek Anderson- could be yanked this week if he gets off
to a poor start. He faces a Bengals secondary that has been
surprisingly good giving opposing QB's only 5.8 ypa and 2
scores.

Bad Bet: Griese vs. Packers, Green vs. Bills,
Delhomme vs. Falcons

2. RB's: Matchups
(starting a #2)

The Standard:
110 yards rush, 30 yards rec, 1 TD = 20 pts

Favorable:

Jamal Lewis- has a solid matchup vs the Bengals
front 7 which has allowed 4.9 ypc with 4 rushing TD's
year to date. Lewis has averaged 5.5 ypc and has 10
scores in 13 games against Cincinnati.

Earnest Graham-
should be a big part of the Bucs
game plan this week in an effort to control the ball and
keep the Packers offense on the sidelines. Green Bay
is yielding a league worse 5.7 ypc.

Selvin Young- every Broncos player is a decent start
vs. the Chiefs. Young averages 7.2 ypc against Kansas
City,
who has been gouged for 5.5 ypc this season. The
Chiefs allow about 18 ppg to RB's.

Good Bet: Jones-Drew vs. Texans, J. Stewart vs.
Falcons, McFadden vs. Chargers.

Unfavorable:
(sitting a #2)

Edgerrin James- faces a Jets defense that held L.T. to
under 3.0 ypc and all RB's this season to a cumulative 3.1
ypc. The Cards will throw often and James is said to be
losing carries to Hightower. Not a good play.

Chris Johnson- will get the worst of it in the middle of
the field vs. the Vikings who yield a paltry 3.2 ypc. This
one shapes up as a defensive battle of wills between the
Titans and Minnesota. Steer clear.

Rashard Mendenhall- popular add this week replaces
Parker
and faces the Ravens who allow 3.7 ypc. This
will be an unpleasant debut for the heralded rookie from
Illinois.

Bad Bet: Forte vs. Eagles

3. WR's: Matchups

The Standard: 80 yards, 1 TD = 14 points

Favorable:
(starting a #3)

Lee Evans- runs vs. the league's worst pass defense
in St. Louis on Sunday. The Rams allow 9.3 ypa and
have been beaten through the air 7 times for scores.

Chad Johnson- should see single coverage for most
of the day. The Browns secondary is porous allowing
8.5 ypa and Johnson's in need of a good game.

Kevin Walter-has been invisible this season. Faces a
secondary in Jacksonville that will focus on stopping
Andre Johnson. The Jags allow 7.6 ypa so Walter
should actually have his 1st solid game of the season.

Good Bet: Porter vs. Texans, Bowe vs. Broncos,
Driver
vs. Bucs.

Unfavorable: (sitting a #3)

Santonio Holmes- the Ravens have been the
best team vs. the pass early in the season allowing
3.0 ypa and only 1 touchdown.

Bernard Berrian- he's going to be a solid #3 with
Frerotte
just not this week. Tennessee yields a
skimpy 4.6 ypa.

D.J. Hackett- had a great matchup last week and
scored 3 points. Faces a Falcons secondary that
has played surprisingly well allowing only 5.1 ypa.

Bad Bet: Henderson vs. 49ers, Ward vs. Ravens

4. TE's: Matchups

The Standard- 40 yards, .3 TD = 6 points

Favorable:

Robert Royal-
is another Bills player who will
score well vs. the Rams.

Owen Daniels- had a solid game last week and
faces a Jaguars defense that allows 7 ppg to TE's.

Bo Scaife- has good chemistry with Collins and
faces the Vikings who can be had over the middle.

Good Bet: Gonzalez vs. Broncos, Scheffler vs.
Chiefs

Unfavorable:

Heath Miller-
will be a harassed all day by Reed
and his Ravens buddies.

Randy McMichael-
the Bills have great safeties
and
athletic linebackers. Trent Green will look
for Holt and Kennison first.

Todd Heap- will have Steelers active linebackers
and Polamalu draped over him all day.

Bad Bet: L. J. Smith vs. Bears

5. K's: Matchups

The Standard- 2 FG's, 1/40+, 3 Pat's = 10 points

Favorable:

Matt Prater-
will have to eke out a FG or 2 to go
with the 5 PAT's he'll kick for the Broncos vs. the
Chiefs.

Shayne Graham- the Bengals offense came to
life last week and should continue to score vs. the
Browns this week.

Rian Lindell- will be the beneficiary of several
drives
into Rams territory by the Bills.

Good Bet: Scobee vs. Texans

Unfavorable:

Ryan Longwell-
the Vikings and Titans will
stymie
each other all day. This should be a very
low scoring game.

Matt Stover- Pittsburgh
is going to dominate
the
Ravens offense even with nose tackle Casey
Hampton
sitting this one out.

Jason Elam- the Panthers will make it difficult
for young Ryan and the Falcons offense.

Bad Bet: Reed vs. Ravens

6. DEF's: Matchups

The Standard- 13 points allowed, 3 turnovers, 2 sacks = 12 pts

Favorable:

Tennessee-
keep riding the Titans as they should
turnover the Vikings in a low scoring contest.

Carolina- will force Ryan to beat them over the top
by stacking the box vs. Turner. That should create
opportunities for the Panthers CB's to pick a few.

Philadelphia- will use a similar blueprint vs Orton
and the Bears as the Eagles allow an NFL best meager
2.4 ypc.

Good Bet: Steelers vs. Ravens, Ravens vs. Steelers

Unfavorable:

N.Y. Jets- Arizona's
high powered passing attack
is going to give them fits.

San Francisco- the Saints are going to score 24+
leaving the 49ers searching for turnovers.

Washington- the Cowboys have a juggernaut on
offense. It's best to avoid them.

Bad Bet: Bucs vs. Packers

Van Winkles:

Kerry Collins-
was at best mediocre last week but
still managed
to put up 13 points. He faces a Vikings
team that will be dedicated to stopping the run and
will force Collins to throw. Minnesota allows a tepid
6.8 ypa primarily because they make opposing offenses
one dimensional. He should have another double digit
scoring afternoon.

Le'Ron McClain- Parker
owners who missed out
on
Mendenhall may want to start the burly Ravens
fullback. He had 18 points and 18 touches last week vs.
the Browns.

Pierre Thomas-
is likely to get 12-15 touches and is
in line for the goal line activity. The 49ers defense has
been better against the pass than the run. Thomas
will be used to keep the 49ers defense from deploying
nickel packages on 1st/2nd downs. He could have a nice
day.

Ike Hilliard- will be single covered and targeted often.
Cover corner Al Harris is out for the game leaving shut
down corner Woodson to harass Antonio Bryant. Ike
is averaging 5 catches and 50 ypg this season with 2 TD's.
He plays extremely well in the heat and this game is at
1pm on Sunday in Tampa.

James Hardy-
will be a popular sleeper this week with
Roscoe Parrish
out. The Rams are awful allowing a
league worst 9.3 ypa. They've fired a starting corner and
have turned back to Tye "Toast" Hill. Hardy is a giant
receiver and this game should showcase his skills.

Fantasy Football Player's Edge

September 28, 2008

Crunch Time: (updated on 29/59 until 1pm EST)

Alert: Carson Palmer will not start today because
of a swollen elbow. Ryan Fitzpatrick gets the start
which may result in lower production from Bengals
WR's Houshmanzadeh and Chad Johnson.

NFL Network reports that Donovan McNabb will
start tonight vs. the Bears. Use him as you normally
would, however, he will be without All Pro G Shaun
Andrews.

Here's a shocker, Brett Favre will start against the
Cards today.

Romeo Crennel says that Derek Anderson was
not in jeopardy of being benched giving Anderson
owners a vote of confidence this morning. To add a
bit more intrigued Anderson is on the injury report
as probable with a sore right forearm.

Philip Rivers may become an even better play this
week if Raiders cover corner Nnambi Asomugha
is out today due to a small fracture of an elbow bone.

Brian Westbrook will be a game time decision tonight.
Unless you own Buckhalter this uncertainty dictates
a move to another RB for this week.

Ahman Green is inactive today for the Texans. Steve
Slaton
will shoulder the load vs. the Jaguars.

Jonathan Stewart is active and likely to play a more
significant role vs. the Falcons today. He's a nice start
as a #2 or flex.

Darren McFadden will receive a pain killing shot
prior to kickoff this afternoon. He's playing in the 4
pm game vs. the Chargers. Avoid McFadden this
week as the risks of a timeshare with Michael Bush
plus the turf toe, are too much to assume.

Deuce McAllister might get 10-15 touches today
which would effectively mitigate Pierre Thomas'
sleeper status making the bye week play of Thomas
risky.

#3 WR's David Patten and Bryant Johnson are
active for the Saints and 49ers respectively. Both
receivers can be used but at the peril of aggravating
nagging injuries. Moore or Bruce are safer plays.

Donte Stallworth is inactive for the Browns vs.
the Bengals. Braylon Edwards/Kellen Winslow
will be the focus of the Cincinnati secondary.

Brandon Lloyd is a game time decision. Use Walter,
Gage or Lance Moore if your stuck and need a #3.

Jerry Porter will play today for the Jaguars vs. the
Texans but it might be wise to let him play a game
before starting him.

If Devin Hester plays today he will not return kicks.
He should remain on your bench today.

Van Winkles:

Kerry Collins-
was at best mediocre last week but
still managed
to put up 13 points. He faces a Vikings
team that will be dedicated to stopping the run and
will force Collins to throw. Minnesota allows a tepid
6.8 ypa primarily because they make opposing offenses
one dimensional. He should have another double digit
scoring afternoon.

Le'Ron McClain- Parker
owners who missed out
on
Mendenhall may want to start the burly Ravens
fullback. He had 18 points and 18 touches last week vs.
the Browns.

Pierre Thomas-
is likely to get 12-15 touches and is
in line for the goal line activity. The 49ers defense has
been better against the pass than the run. Thomas
will be used to keep the 49ers defense from deploying
nickel packages on 1st/2nd downs. He could have a nice
day.

Ike Hilliard- will be single covered and targeted often.
Cover corner Al Harris is out for the game leaving shut
down corner Woodson to harass Antonio Bryant. Ike
is averaging 5 catches and 50 ypg this season with 2 TD's.
He plays extremely well in the heat and this game is at
1pm on Sunday in Tampa.

James Hardy-
will be a popular sleeper this week with
Roscoe Parrish
out. The Rams are awful allowing a
league worst 9.3 ypa. They've fired a starting corner and
have turned back to Tye "Toast" Hill. Hardy is a giant
receiver and this game should showcase his skills.

Start/Sit: (Week 4)

1. QB's: Matchups

The Standard: 300 yards, 2 TD, 0 Int = 20 points

Favorable:

Trent Edwards-
faces the Rams who yield a league high
9.3 ypa. Edwards is averaging 7.8 ypa and has a 96.6 QB
rating on the season. Both of these metrics will rise after
Sunday's game. The Rams allow 18 points per game (ppg)
to QB's.

Carson Palmer- got back on track last week against a good
Giants defense and faces a Browns secondary this week
that allows 8.5 ypa. Palmer has a lifetime passer rating of
90.3 and 20 TD's vs. Cleveland. The Browns yield 20 ppg
to signal callers.

David Garrard- faces a Texans secondary that has allowed
7.1 ypa attempt even though they've played running offenses
in the Steelers and the Titans. Jerry Porter is due back this
week giving Garrard a much needed primary option. QB's
are averaging 18 ppg vs. the Texans.

Good Bet: Huard vs. Broncos, Schaub vs. Jaguars
Rodgers
vs. Bucs.

Unfavorable:

Ben Roethlisberger-
faces the stingiest pass defense in the
NFL in the Ravens who allow only 3.0 ypa. He'll be without
Willie Parker which will allow Baltimore to play the pass
even more aggressively. Throw in a bruised hand and you
have a formula for disaster.

Gus Frerotte- brings a questionable passing team in to face
a stout defensive team. The Titans yield 4.6 ypa and have
allowed only 1 TD pass so far this year.

Derek Anderson- could be yanked this week if he gets off
to a poor start. He faces a Bengals secondary that has been
surprisingly good giving opposing QB's only 5.8 ypa and 2
scores.

Bad Bet: Griese vs. Packers, Green vs. Bills,
Delhomme vs. Panthers

2. RB's: Matchups
(starting a #2)

The Standard:
110 yards rush, 30 yards rec, 1 TD = 20 pts

Favorable:

Jamal Lewis- has a solid matchup vs the Bengals
front 7 which has allowed 4.9 ypc with 4 rushing TD's
year to date. Lewis has averaged 5.5 ypc and has 10
scores in 13 games against Cincinnati.

Earnest Graham-
should be a big part of the Bucs
game plan this week in an effort to control the ball and
keep the Packers offense on the sidelines. Green Bay
is yielding a league worse 5.7 ypc.

Selvin Young- every Broncos player is a decent start
vs. the Chiefs. Young averages 7.2 ypc against Kansas
City,
who has been gouged for 5.5 ypc this season. The
Chiefs allow about 18 ppg to RB's.

Good Bet: Jones-Drew vs. Texans, J. Stewart vs.
Falcons, McFadden vs. Chargers.

Unfavorable:
(sitting a #2)

Edgerrin James- faces a Jets defense that held L.T. to
under 3.0 ypc and all RB's this season to a cumulative 3.1
ypc. The Cards will throw often and James is said to be
losing carries to Hightower. Not a good play.

Chris Johnson- will get the worst of it in the middle of
the field vs. the Vikings who yield a paltry 3.2 ypc. This
one shapes up as a defensive battle of wills between the
Titans and Minnesota. Steer clear.

Rashard Mendenhall- popular add this week replaces
Parker
and faces the Ravens who allow 3.7 ypc. This
will be an unpleasant debut for the heralded rookie from
Illinois.

Bad Bet: Forte vs. Eagles

3. WR's: Matchups

The Standard: 80 yards, 1 TD = 14 points

Favorable:
(starting a #3)

Lee Evans- runs vs. the league's worst pass defense
in St. Louis on Sunday. The Rams allow 9.3 ypa and
have been beaten through the air 7 times for scores.

Chad Johnson- should see single coverage for most
of the day. The Browns secondary is porous allowing
8.5 ypa and Johnson's in need of a good game.

Kevin Walter-has been invisible this season. Faces a
secondary in Jacksonville that will focus on stopping
Andre Johnson. The Jags allow 7.6 ypa so Walter
should actually have his 1st solid game of the season.

Good Bet: Porter vs. Texans, Bowe vs. Broncos,
Driver
vs. Bucs.

Unfavorable: (sitting a #3)

Santonio Holmes- the Ravens have been the
best team vs. the pass early in the season allowing
3.0 ypa and only 1 touchdown.

Bernard Berrian- he's going to be a solid #3 with
Frerotte
just not this week. Tennessee yields a
skimpy 4.6 ypa.

D.J. Hackett- had a great matchup last week and
scored 3 points. Faces a Falcons secondary that
has played surprisingly well allowing only 5.1 ypa.

Bad Bet: Henderson vs. 49ers, Ward vs. Ravens

4. TE's: Matchups

The Standard- 40 yards, .3 TD = 6 points

Favorable:

Robert Royal-
is another Bills player who will
score well vs. the Rams.

Owen Daniels- had a solid game last week and
faces a Jaguars defense that allows 7 ppg to TE's.

Bo Scaife- has good chemistry with Collins and
faces the Vikings who can be had over the middle.

Good Bet: Gonzalez vs. Broncos, Scheffler vs.
Chiefs

Unfavorable:

Heath Miller-
will be a harassed all day by Reed
and his Ravens buddies.

Randy McMichael-
the Bills have great safeties
and
athletic linebackers. Trent Green will look
for Holt and Kennison first.

Todd Heap- will have Steelers active linebackers
and Polamalu draped over him all day.

Bad Bet: L. J. Smith vs. Bears

5. K's: Matchups

The Standard- 2 FG's, 1/40+, 3 Pat's = 10 points

Favorable:

Matt Prater-
will have to eke out a FG or 2 to go
with the 5 PAT's he'll kick for the Broncos vs. the
Chiefs.

Shayne Graham- the Bengals offense came to
life last week and should continue to score vs. the
Browns this week.

Rian Lindell- will be the beneficiary of several
drives
into Rams territory by the Bills.

Good Bet: Scobee vs. Texans

Unfavorable:

Ryan Longwell-
the Vikings and Titans will
stymie
each other all day. This should be a very
low scoring game.

Matt Stover- Pittsburgh
is going to dominate
the
Ravens offense even with nose tackle Casey
Hampton
sitting this one out.

Jason Elam- the Panthers will make it difficult
for young Ryan and the Falcons offense.

Bad Bet: Reed vs. Ravens

6. DEF's: Matchups

The Standard- 13 points allowed, 3 turnovers, 2 sacks = 12 pts

Favorable:

Tennessee-
keep riding the Titans as they should
turnover the Vikings in a low scoring contest.

Carolina- will force Ryan to beat them over the top
by stacking the box vs. Turner. That should create
opportunities for the Panthers CB's to pick a few.

Philadelphia- will use a similar blueprint vs Orton
and the Bears as the Eagles allow an NFL best meager
2.4 ypc.

Good Bet: Steelers vs. Ravens, Ravens vs. Steelers

Unfavorable:

N.Y. Jets- Arizona's
high powered passing attack
is going to give them fits.

San Francisco- the Saints are going to score 24+
leaving the 49ers searching for turnovers.

Washington- the Cowboys have a juggernaut on
offense. It's best to avoid them.

Bad Bet: Bucs vs. Packers

Bye Week: Lions, Colts, Dolphins, Patriots,
Giants, Seahawks.

Fantasy Football Player's Edge

September 27, 2008

The key to winning your league revolves around
matchups and the injury status of key players.
The Player's Edge
is the best source for timely
and comprehensive information and advice on
who to start, who to sit and why.

The Walking Wounded: (updated and revised)

Donovan McNabb returned to practice without any
limitations and will start on Sunday vs. the Bears.

Brett Favre is listed as questionable with an ankle
sprain. Pencil him in on Sunday vs. Arizona.

Carson Palmer
is listed as questionable with a sore
elbow but is expected to start against the
Browns.

Willie Parker is out this week with a sprained knee.
He could miss more than one game. Rookie Rashard
Mendenhall
will get the start vs. the Ravens.

Brian Westbrook
was unable to practice all week and
is questionable for Sunday. Correll Buckhalter will get
the start if Westbrook's out but faces a tough Bears
defense that allows only 3.4 ypc.

LaDainian Tomlinson practiced fully and will play on
Sunday vs. the Raiders.

Steven Jackson is upset with the benching of Bulger
but is physically ready for the Bills.

Willis McGahee practiced yesterday and is listed as
probable for Monday night's tilt vs. the
Steelers.

Adrian Peterson is listed as questionable but plans on
taking a full workload on Sunday vs. Tennessee. His
caddy Chester Taylor is also questionable but is likely
to play.

Ryan Grant is not on the Packers injury report. He
should be full out against the Bucs.

Justin Fargas
is out for week 4 with a groin injury.
Darren McFadden will be a game time decision due
to a turf toe. Michael Bush practiced fully and is a
solid play, should he receive all of the carries
vs. the
Chargers
, who allow 5.0 ypc.
Check back on Sunday.

Jonathan Stewart
is dealing with an injured toe but
is probable for the
Falcons and will play.

Ahman Green
is questionable and may be able to suit
up but
Steve Slaton will get the start vs. the Jaguars.

Maurice Jones-Drew
and Fred Taylor returned to
practice, are listed as probable and will play against
the Texans.

LenDale White
is probable for the Vikings game as
he nurses a sore shoulder.

Anquan Boldin
tweaked a hamstring yesterday but
is probable for the Jets.

David Patten
is doubtful. Lance Moore is working
with the 1st team and is a good #3 vs. the 49ers.

Kevin
Walter missed some practice time with a sore
toe but is probable for the Jaguars game. He's a solid
#3 WR this week.

Jerry Porter, another solid #3 this week, should make
his 2008 debut against the Texans. He's probable.

Devin Hester is still troubled by a painful rib injury
and will be a game time decision. Pass on him this week.

Laveranues Coles is questionable with a thigh injury.
He played well last week with the same issues.

Joey Galloway has not practiced and is out for this
week.

Braylon Edwards practiced without restrictions and
is probable for the Bengals.

Donte Stallworth is still a week away from returning
to the Browns.

Justin Gage is likely to start this week vs. Minnesota.

Bryant Johnson missed practice due to a hamstring
and will be a game time decision. Look elsewhere for
a #3.

Darrell Jackson will not return this week as he deals
with a calf injury.

Brandon Lloyd is questionable for the Eagles game
with a hip injury.

Jeremy Shockey
got good news from the doctors and
may be able to return in week 6 from a sports hernia.

L. J. Smith missed practice all week and is likely to be
out with a balky back.

All Pro C Nick Hardwick may return to the Chargers
this week further enhancing Tomlinson's value. He's
questionable.

Shaun Andrews, a McNabb bodyguard, is having back
problems. He's doubtful.

All Pro G Eric Steinbach remains questionable and will
likely miss Sunday's game with the Bengals.

LT Orlando Pace is probable for this week against the
Bills. Trent Green
needs all the help he can get.

Shaun Rogers was rested most of the week because of a
sore shoulder. He's probable which is bad news for Chris
Perry.

Steelers run stopper Casey Hampton is out this week
making Willis McGahee's job a lot easier.

S Troy Polamalu missed practice all week with a quad
strain. He intends to play on Monday night. Todd Heap
would be upgraded this week if Polamalu is sidelined.

Al Harris is out for the Packers with a torn spleen. Ike
Hilliard could have a nice game for the Buccaneers as
Charles Woodson is likely to be locked on Antonio
Bryant
.

Van Winkles:

Kerry Collins-
was at best mediocre last week but
still managed
to put up 13 points. He faces a Vikings
team that will be dedicated to stopping the run and
will force Collins to throw. Minnesota allows a tepid
6.8 ypa primarily because they make opposing offenses
one dimensional. He should have another double digit
scoring afternoon.

Le'Ron McClain- Parker
owners who missed out
on
Mendenhall may want to start the burly Ravens
fullback. He had 18 points and 18 touches last week vs.
the Browns.

been better against the pass than the run. Thomas
will be used to keep the 49ers defense from deploying

day.

Ike Hilliard- will be single covered and targeted often.

down corner Woodson to harass Antonio Bryant. Ike
is averaging 5 catches and 50 ypg this season with 2 TD's.
He plays extremely well in the heat and this game is at
1pm on Sunday in Tampa.
